This week we were excited to kick off our Virtual Class Programs! We were honored to have so many 5th grade classes from Goose Creek Elementary sign up for Mission Clamagore and ready to "see" more of our 5th grade faces! Not only that, but our Science Reader, Oscar's Adventure, is hot off the press. The history reader is following and they will be shipped to our participating schools. Equally as exciting is the kick off of The Oscar Challenge Science Kit! Hooray!

NASA's Mars Rover Perseverance just MADE HISTORY!! It successfully landed on Mars moments ago and is already sending back PICTURES! Perseverance will take many samples, not only of abiotic Martian materials like rocks and Martian soil, but scientists are hoping to find biotic materials or evidence of biotic materials as well. While at first glance Martian ecosystems are not in SC 5th grade science standards there are many connections including force and motion, biotic vs abiotic, human impacts (not contaminating outerspace with Earth microbes and materials) and soft skills including team work and communication. Learn more at nasa.gov .
The Oscar Challenge: Observe like Oscar Science Kit is an extension of the science reader, Oscar’s Adventure. The kit reinforces key math, ELA and science content through scientific observation. Created in collaboration with the College of Charleston’s Dr. Erik Sotka, students will learn to use a common scientific tool and explore relationships between sets of numbers using pollinators and producers. Kits are free of charge to eligible SC 5th grade classes. Preview the kit under our science section. A physical kit includes a durable printed set of items 1-7, string for a class of up to 30, and professional support. To receive a physical kit contact HGiddens@patriotspoint.org.
